that has garnered a remarkable rating of 4.52 out of 5.
What Makes Screen Shader Stand Out?
Screen Shader is designed to tint your computer display with a warm orange color, providing a cozy and comfortable viewing experience. By reducing the amount of blue light emitted by your screen, this
Chrome extension
helps in decreasing eye strain, eye fatigue, and restoring the day/night balance. Its incredible popularity among users is a testament to its effectiveness and user-friendly features.
One of the standout features of Screen Shader is its completely redesigned modern menu, which allows for full control over geopositioning, color, and darkness settings. This flexibility ensures that users can customize the tinting to their individual preferences. Whether you prefer a subtle shade or a deep orange hue, Screen Shader has got you covered.
Furthermore, the developers of Screen Shader have put in extensive effort to optimize the extension's performance. From bug fixes for countless websites to ensuring that it never slows down Chrome, every detail has been meticulously taken care of to provide users with a seamless experience.
Positive User Reviews
Screen Shader has garnered a wide range of positive reviews from its users. Adam Wade, a user suffering from glaucoma, expresses gratitude for this game-changing extension that has greatly improved his eye health. Angel S, another satisfied user, praises Screen Shader for its compatibility with PDFs and its ability to change the color overlay on websites. Alis B Ward appreciates the usefulness of the extension, although she encountered a minor issue with it modifying the UI of certain websites even when disabled.
Mac Woodruff credits Screen Shader for making it easier for him to read without causing eye strain and migraines, while Kanhaiya Kumar simply describes it as "useful." On the other hand, Miika Ampe encountered compatibility issues with her older MacBook, but acknowledges the potential effectiveness of the extension. Maisha Disha and Jarett Drucker express their love and admiration for Screen Shader, with Jarett going as far as calling the developer a genius. Alexandra LaFon hails the extension as a life-changer, significantly increasing her productivity and making her enjoy working on her computer. Chris Scott, however, points out that the extension does not work on certain pages, such as Chrome bookmarks and Google search.
The Extension's Impact on Eye Health
Screen Shader is not just a tool for eye comfort; it has been shown to have a positive impact on overall eye health. Research has demonstrated that computer screens emit bright blue light that can strain the eyes and disrupt the sleep cycle, especially when used at night. By tinting the screen with a warm orange color, Screen Shader effectively reduces the amount of blue light reaching the eyes, minimizing the negative effects on melatonin production and improving sleep quality.
Moreover, this extension has garnered praise for its ability to cater to different age groups. While young teens may be more sensitive to light at night, older individuals may be less affected. Screen Shader's versatility ensures that everyone can benefit from decreased blue light and improved eye comfort.
Constant Improvement and Accessibility
With regular updates and bug fixes, Screen Shader continues to refine its performance and cater to the needs of its users. The developers have placed a strong focus on user feedback and have made it a priority to ensure compatibility with different operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Chrome OS. This commitment to constant improvement and accessibility demonstrates their dedication to providing the best possible experience for users.

makes youtube shorts go white, atleast when in dark mode
It messes up Youtube dark mode. I wouldn't give it 1 star just for this, but it's been more than a year since this issue first appeared. Seems like they don't care Uninstalling this extension fixes youtube shorst FYI
Chromebooks already do this, don't they? And you can adjust the intensity of it in the settings. So for Chromebooks, this isn't much of a point of this, but I can see it being useful.
This has always been a great and pretty much the best option but it's biggest fault is that it sometimes breaks websites and even disabling it on that website won't fix it, you have to disable the extension entirely to restore the broken websites. Two current offenders, YouTube with dark mode specifically on shorts but some other things whole sections turn white making navigation impossible as buttons and text are white as well. Bluesky scrolling is broken, the background color disappears and is replaced by black. These happen even with the extension disabled on those sites. Only way to fix is to disable the extension entirely. I've looked at some alternatives but still haven't found anything as good it's just frustrating that there are some major issues with this and the creator isn't very quick with fixing these things. If they could just make it so disabling on a site TRULY disables the extension on that site and not still running in the background that would solve probably all of these issues.
Pretty damn good unless I find out down the road their spywhere. Does a good job and makes it easier to go to sleep
Great extension. In the last few weeks (maybe due to an update?) I have felt as if the Chromebook light is punching me in the eyes. This has cured the issue.
Great work, but it does not work on all websites... I'm using it also for my pro life and it doesn't work well with the Microsoft suite (outlook, one note, etc...) plus some other random website are also broken by this extension. However the overall user experience is pretty good, nice job. For people having the same problem as me, I recommend using extensions like Eye Guardian that works well on all websites.
Great extension. Something I've found, though, is that it doesn't actually work on itself. So, since I use it to darken my screen, if I need to change the settings at all, I essentially get flash-banged.
I love this extension but it's breaking dark mode on Youtube. Please fix :D
Removes dark mode from some of my dark theme websites, eg. https://finviz.com even when Screen Shader is disabled. It also blocks some buttons on those websites. Not good unless fixed. Uninstalled and solved. Installed a different night shift mode extension without these bugs.
Works well as intended, but disables RTX VRS if extension is enabled sadly. :( So I have to disable this extension so that RTX VRS works in videos o7o7 It's the only downside, everything else is good.
Was a great extension. I used it every day. Since about a week ago, it started causing problems. Pages, or parts of a page, would randomly become blank. Moving the cursor over the page would reveal page elements only for them to disappear again after moving the cursor.
I used to love this extension! Now it is causing all sorts of issues on chrome. My pages will suddenly switch places, the screen will only be partially shaded, one of my screens will show up on the the other screen, and there will be colorful lines across the screen. As soon as I removed the extension all of these issues went away.
The four stars are for how awesome this extension is when it works. MY problem is that I use a combination of a 2015 Macbook Pro, a Mac Mini, and a Windows PC at various work stations. This extension works wonderfully for the second two, but on my Macbook laptop, it turns both the background and text black and I can't see anything at all on my open tabs. On my other two computers I am able to click the icon and adjust the settings, but on my Macbook when I click the icon, it's just a narrow bar that opens up, and there are links (Shade, Color, Location, Settings) that change when I hover over them, but nothing happens when I click on them. What this means is that SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY, I am uninstalling this extension so that I can see what I am doing (at all) while working on my laptop, then reinstalling it when I work at my other two computers. Which so far, I have put up with. But it's extremely annoying.
Amazing extension, however for some reason when i tried to click autofind, my antivirus went off .. why is that there?? what do you need that for? good shader though 9/10 (-1 for there being a virus)
When you have to read for a prolonged amount of time, this Chrome plugin is really beneficial for decreasing eye strain.
This is a game changer if you have glaucoma. Your eyes will thank you.
Great Use as Dyslexia Colour Overlay I've been looking for a colour overlay extension for ages to change the colour on a PDF for ages. I used to use the "Colour overlay" extension but that was actually so bad and not compatible with either Linux or Vivaldi. Today I finally came across "Screen Shader" and it has finally happened a fully browser compatible overlay that even works on pdf. You can change it to any colour and I was just looking for a nightlight initially because my colour is yellow and that's basically what a night light does. But this is like putting any colour of your plastic overlay on your screen.
This extension was lovely until I realized it doesn't turn off when disabled. It kept modifying and breaking the UI of outlook online, etc. while definitely toggled to the 'Disabled' position. Bummer! Could have been a great tool for light sensitivities.
This makes it much easier for me to read without causing eye-strain and migraines
